The book that started it all

Look at you, wanting to know more! That’s what we like to see!

UnMarketing was our first book. Scott had built up an incredible social media following, particularly on Twitter. He’d been writing his blog (we even have some of his first posts here) and getting a lot of readers when someone from the publisher Wiley & Sons (Hi Shannon!) reached out to him and asked why he hadn’t written a book yet.

“Because you hadn’t asked yet,” he replied.

And away, he went. He first took blog posts, and a few keynote transcripts and then, as anyone who’s ever tried to write a book will understand, he got a little overwhelmed. Alison tagged in, and together they created UnMarketing.

Since then, it’s had a paperback iteration and a second edition, translated into over a dozen languages, sold over 50,000 copies and is used as a textbook or suplimentary reading at more than 50 Colleges/Universities. If you decide to buy it, you’ll be getting the second edition, which includes the original content and a five new chapters and updates to every other relevant chapter. It’s a great book to get started in the world of UN.

"Fun" Fact #1 - After seeing the final cover design for the first time, Scott (as one did back in 2009) shared a photo of it on Facebook. The first bit of feedback he got was someone saying it looked like a book for marketers at the United Nations. Shockingly, we didn’t immediately write The Jackass Whisperer book.

"Fun" Fact #2 - The first ever review on Amazon for the book was 1-star. The problem was, the book wasn't released yet. the reviewer didn't like the premise. And yet, the Jackass Whisperer book was still a decade away...
